GRAND CANYON ADVENTURE TOURS
United States
What about the Grand Canyon?
Attracting visitors from around the globe, the Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. This canyon is 10 miles across from the South Rim to the North Rim, and drops one mile from the Rim to the Canyon floor. Although not the largest or deepest canyon in the world, it is easily the most magnificent, exposing a geologic library dating back almost 2 billion years. This cross section of earth creates stunning interplays of light and shadow that are constantly shifting from sunrise to sunset. The Colorado River is the main force that shaped the Canyon, and this is what is used to measure the Canyon’s 277 miles in length. Beginning at Vermillion Cliffs below Lake Powell, and extending to Grand Wash Cliffs near Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon National Park encompasses 1.2 million acres. It has incredible diversity of landscapes, wildlife and weather conditions. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience!
Where Is The Grand Canyon?
Grand Canyon National Park extends over two states, making for long driving times. The South Rim is home to Grand Canyon Village, and is the most popular tourist destination. The South Rim is a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas, and 4 hours from Phoenix. The North Rim is a 3 hour drive from the South Rim, 5 hours from Las Vegas and 6 hours from Phoenix.
Havasu Falls is located in the western Grand Canyon on the Havasupai Indian Reservation. The trailhead is about 3 hours from the South Rim, 4 hours from Las Vagas and 5 hours from Phoenix.
When Should I Go & What’s The Weather Like?
The best time to visit the Canyon is in the spring and fall. Winter brings cold temperatures and snow, as the South Rim sits at 7,000 ft in elevation. At 8,000 ft, the North Rim is closed from Mid October to Mid May due to extreme snow conditions. Summer brings hot temperatures, with some small relief with monsoon rain storms in July and August, making it a great time to cool off at the North Rim, or with a whitewater rafting trip down the Colorado. This is also a great time to check out the cool, pristine waters of Havasu Falls.
